President’s Message

What do the words Royal Canadian Legion mean to you? For many Canadians it means Veterans and an organization that was built for Veterans by Veterans.
But today the Royal Canadian Legion is much more than that!
Today, the Legion still looks after Veterans and their families in need and this will always remain our first priority. However, we have also evolved into a community organization caring for our elderly and our youth with a number of citizen building programs. BC/Yukon Command also donates over $3 million annually to worthwhile projects and charitable organizations throughout British Columbia and the Yukon.
BC/Yukon Command and our related Societies own and operate over 3700 units of affordable housing for all seniors 55 and older who qualify by virtue of their income level throughout British Columbia and Yukon. We also are now offering supportive or assisted living for those seniors who need a little extra help in order to remain independent such as providing meals, cleaning services and care workers to assist with such things as bathing if necessary.
For our youth we provide scholarships and bursaries, supportive funding for cadet corps and youth sports programs throughout British Columbia and Yukon. We have also created a “Youth Ambassadors of Remembrance Program” the details of which will be found elsewhere on the web page.
BC/Yukon Command also donates to the BC Chair of Family Practice at UBC which provides medical doctors to our smaller communities; we also provide funding for nursing students at Kamloops University. I do not think there is a hospital within British Columbia or the Yukon that does not have a piece of equipment donated by BC/Yukon Command and our 156 branches and 91 Ladies Auxiliaries. Also a vast number of community projects throughout our Command have been funded by in whole or in part by our Legion Branches and/or our Legion Foundation.
We are here for all of our citizens young and old!
Lest We Forget
